John Herbert Nordlund, born March 16, 1915, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2012. He was the son of John Oskar Nordlund and Anna Wilhelmina (“Minnie”) Nilsson, Swedish immigrants who came to Seattle in the early 1900’s, where they met and married.
John (“Herb”) graduated from Queen Anne High School and was a member of Queen Anne Presbyterian Church for 80 years, where he met Patricia Lorraine Schage who became his beloved wife.
Following his service in the U.S. Army 1934-1937, he and Patricia married on December 23, 1941 and settled on Queen Anne Hill where they raised their family.
He served in various capacities at the church including elder, adult Sunday School class leader, treasurer, choir member and co-founder of the seniors group. He was active in the Swedish Club and the Svea Male Chorus. He also delivered food for the Queen Anne Food Bank. He worked at the Boeing Company as a cost estimator and also served with the Social Security Administration and the U.S. Postal Service.
He is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Patricia, and his sister, Helen Roberts.
He is survived by his daughters, Arlene (Richard) Brumm, Karen (Keith) Ross, and sons Paul (Debra) Nordlund and Daniel (Elizabeth) Nordlund, along with 11 grandchildren: David (Carma) Baker, Christopher (Kerry) Lindal, Rhonda (Aaron) Fields, Michael (Emily) Nordlund, Matthew (Naoko) Nordlund, Mark (Raquel) Nordlund, Ryan Nordlund, Eric (Heather) Nordlund, Sarah (Erick) Slabaugh, Brian Ross, Samantha Ross, 11 great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
The family thanks Bethany At Pacific in Everett for the compassionate care Herb received over the past year.
A memorial service will be held at Queen Anne Presbyterian Church, 414 W. Howe St., Seattle, WA 98119 on Sunday, June 3, at 12 Noon. Interment is at Lake View Cemetery.
