Jody was born January 20, 1925 in the small town of Bedford, Iowa where she lived until she graduated from high school. She attended one year at Tokio College. Then, she and her parents went to Lawrence, Kansas where she met Maurice Root from Yakima. Josephine knew she wanted to marry an engineer and NOT live in Bedford, and he was studying to be an engineer and wanted to build bridges in China. It was a marriage meant to be, and they were happily married for over 60 years until Maurice died in 2000 at the age of 82. They had three children Jeri Dell, Sharon and Jeffery. Jody and Maurice had 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
During their lives together they lived in many states and countries, including Florida, Georgia, New York, California and Washington. Overseas they lived in Mumbai, India; Tokyo, Japan; and Mexico City, Mexico. They spent their last years in Seattle.
Josephine had many interests, not least of which is clothing and shoes. She also was an excellent seamstress, making many clothes and dance costumes for her two daughters. She learned Japanese flower arranging and attended many Sumo matches while she live in Tokyo.
She loved to travel, and never said NO if asked to go on a trip. She and Maurice spent many winters in their motor home in Baja Mexico and made trips to Alaska. In their later years they enjoyed spending time at their property on Hood Canal. One of her last trips was to Tanzania, Africa.
