

Kaare was born in Aadland on the island of Karmoy Norway to Tomas and Teodora Mikkelsen. He was the fourth of five siblings (Magnhild, Martin, Egil and Tor)
Kaare was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
He lost his mother at the age of 7.
Kaare and his brother Tor came to Fairhaven Mass. in 1953 with his father and his father’s new bride from Norway.
In 1956 he moved to Seattle Wa. and got a job fishing in Alaska.
Kaare was drafted into the Army where he was stationed in Germany for two years from 1959-1961. He was very proud to have been serving the Country.
Kaare worked as a commercial fisherman, fishing in New Bedford, California, Alaska and the Washington Coast. Fishing on longliners and dragger’s for Salmon, Crab, Scallops and bottom fish!
In 1965 Kaare married his first wife from Petersburg Alaska Janice. Later she would be able to be with him fishing in Puget Sound.
They lived on Whidbey Island when Janice passed in 2007. Kaare would often talk about the place they had in Scatchet Head where he had a beautiful view of the water and his boat down below. He had a big garden with fruit trees and vegetables.
He also enjoyed helping at his church and around his community.
Kaare was a member of The Karmoy Club of Washington, National Nordic Museum, Norwegian Commercial Club and Sons of Norway!
Kaare is survived by his wife Gerd, stepchildren Marit, Fritjof, Laila, Steven, also grandchildren and great grandchildren that lightened up his day when they came to visit.
