She is survived by her brothers Jamie Hanken (Bothell) and Paul (Rachel) Hanken (Bellevue) and many aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces/nephews Lily Hanken, Ryan Hanken, Zachary Hanken and Leah Hanken.
Kathy held a special place in her family. She was always part of planning family gatherings and the food that is part of every family gathering. She loved to travel and took many trips with family and friends including two trips to Africa with her Dad and to other countries with her friend Jana.
To her nieces and nephews she was a special aunt who gave them her full attention. Kathy was a special daughter, sister, aunt, niece, and friend. She was very loyal and supportive of her family.
We all know Kathy's commitment to good food, its presentation and preparation. She was invested in helping others to enjoy food at family gatherings and through her work. Over the years she worked at several restaurants including the Hunt Club, the Fish Café and for the last 15 years at the University of Washington. She was the Executive Chef and General Manager of the University's 1101 Café and had recently opened the University's Local Point Restaurant. She was "all in" and had spent tremendous energy in closing down 1101 Café and successfully opening Local Point in January 2014.
Kathy's creative hobby was making jewelry. Many friends and family members were recipients of her creations.
We love you. We miss you.
