
Surrounded by his family, Kenneth Lew, CPA of Mercer Island passed away on January 5, 2017. Although he was born in Los Angeles on May 20, 1927, Ken was brought up, on Seattle’s Beacon Hill by Harry and Helen Lew. He attended Franklin High School, where he competed on the track team, and became an Eagle Scout. Ken graduated from the University of Washington in 1951, where he was a member of Beta Alpha Psi. He was in the United States Army and Reserves from 1945 to 1952. Ken served domestically and in Korea during his time in the military. He was an avid skier and mountain climber, summiting Mount Rainier on two occasions; and was a member of the Mountaineers and the American Volkssport Association. Ken was a world traveler, venturing to Europe, Russia, China, Australia, New Zealand and the Caribbean. He also loved ballroom dancing with his wife and vintage television programs. In his later years, he found interest in Orienteering and won several age group World Championships. He truly enjoyed his work as an accountant with Morrison and Associates and never retired, working with clients and partners for a lifetime. He was devoted to several Seattle area charities, including Chong Wa Association and Wing Luke Museum as a Board Member; the Chinese Girls Drill Team, Chinese Parents Service Organization and Historic Chinatown Gate Foundation as Treasurer; and the Gee How Oak Tin Family Association and Cathay Post 186 as their t¬¬¬¬¬ax preparer.
Ken was married to Louise Wong on December 15, 1950 until she passed away in 1983. Together they raised 4 children: Lauretta, Warren, Jana Brocato (Anthony) and Carla (Vince Yamamoto). They have 6 grandchildren: Lydia Wickingstad (Nicholas), Warren Lew Jr., Jaclyn Lew, Kimiko Lozan (Daryl), Stephanie Tasche (Brett) and Carina Brocato; and two great-grandchildren: Logan Tasche and Kaison Lozan.
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and colleagues; especially by his brother Milton (Lily) and his sister Doris Eng (Clayton); In-laws David and Mabel Wong, Suelyn Wong, and George Wan; and many cousins, nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.
In a private service, Ken will join his wife, interred at the Lake View Cemetery in Seattle. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Orienteering USA, POB 1444, Forest Park, GA 30298.
