I didn't get a chance to work with Kory as much as I would have liked, being at Harborview. It was such a joy when I did. He was always cheerful and smiling, and willing to share his expertise, patiently instructing people like me, dodoes, on all his trade secrets. I always left him having laughed and learned and feeling so much better about myself.
One of the most wonderful things about working for Lab Med was the teamwork and the sense that we were all a big family. Kory was an important part of that family and a team member I relied on when I needed help or a dose of the latest news from UW. What would the automation line be doing next?
The lab is full of so many talented, creative, committed, and responsible people that are willing to give 110%. Kory was one of the best, always doing his job at the highest level with kindness, generosity, and boundless good cheer. I had the pleasure of attending a retirement class with Kory just before I retired from Lab Med. I was surprised to see him since I knew he had a few years to go before he could rest on his laurels. He laughed and told me he had been under a little stress at work and he thought it would be fun to see what he'd need to do to retire. He was excited and happy that he had gotten to a point where retirement was in reach. We had so much fun that day playing hooky from work and exchanging the latest gossip from both hospitals. I think I got the better end of that deal.
Shine on, Kory. Your presence made this world a better place. Thank you for all you did for me. You will be missed.

A couple of things I remember about Kory is that we both owned a VW Scirocco. Mine was a '79 and his was a '78, I believe. I also remember how good he was at making the Christmas window design every year. We collaborated one time with the "Dancing Reindeer" mural. I remember it because I thought we should have won. We didn't. I took it much harder that Kory... He was very talented and very smart - one of the smartest people I know. And Kory was a real nice person - I never saw him get angry, even when we didn't even get a special mention for "Dancing Reindeer!" That's why most everyone in the lab liked him. He will be missed.
