Laurie Clinkenbeard was a lifelong resident of the Seattle area, residing her entire life in Wallingford, Northgate, Lake City and Lynnwood. She grew up as the middle sibling of five children in her family and attended McDonald Elementary, Marshall Junior High and Lincoln High School in the Seattle Public School District. While attending Lincoln she concurrently completed some college credits at North Seattle Community College. She received her associate degree in Nursing, obtained her Practical Nursing License and began her working career at several Seattle hospitals and then in home health care for over 30 years. Much of her work was with newborns and young children. She had a unique opportunity to travel with a Nurses Continuing Education team to the former Soviet Union in 1983, visiting hospitals and clinics in five Soviet Republics.
Laurie loved cats… and ‘CATS’. She was caretaker for several of the felines over her lifetime and was a longtime patron of the arts, particularly musical theater. She attended more than 30 seasons of productions at the Fifth Avenue Theater along with productions at Paramount and the Seattle Center Coliseum. Sarah Brightman was a favorite performer.
Laurie was a kind and thoughtful person exhibiting her nurturing character on and off the job. Her last years of limited mobility and chronic pain barely diminished her concern for others and concern for their wellbeing. Laurie leaves behind a sister Linda and a brother Ron. Sister Ruth and brother Michael predeceased her.
