81, Lt. Col. USMC Ret., of Shoreline, went home to be with the Lord on 12 January 2002 after a yearlong battle with Guillain Barre Syndrome. Lawrence was born on 19 August 1920 in Seattle and graduated from Ballard High School in 1938. After working as a messenger for Western Union, he enrolled at the UW in Sept. 1940.
In Feb. 1942, he joined the naval ROTC and left the UW in June 1942 to enter military service and enlisted in the Marine Corps on 20 August 1942. He earned his wings on 12 June 1943 and loyally served his country and saw combat action in WWII and the Korean War.
In July 1962, Lawrence received a BS from the U. of Nebraska-Omaha. During the Vietnam War, he was assigned to Commander in Chief, Pacific CINCPAC in Hawaii.
Lawrence retired from the Marine Corps in 1967 after a 25-year career as a distinguished officer, military flight instructor, and highly decorated attack bomber and fighter pilot.
After military retirement, Lawrence was hired by the State of WA as Business Manager of Fircrest School in Shoreline where he served for nearly 15 years.
His love for the Lord Jesus Christ and his strong faith were evidenced in his service to both his local church and the Gideons. He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather as well as a loyal Husky football fan to the end. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, generous spirit, humility, integrity, and kindness to all. Lawrence displayed incredible stamina throughout his lifetime: in work, in sports, and especially in the last 6 months.
Lawrence Brandon is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marjorie Loomis Brandon; his son, Larry Brandon of Deerfield Beach, FL; his daughter, Joann Enge David of Lake Forest Park, WA; and his son, Paul Brandon Denise of Anchorage, AK.
