Leonora Barraca, age 85, was born in Tondo, Manila, Philippines. Born and raised during the years of war, she grew up in a time when women were often expected to remain within the home and devote themselves solely to domestic affairs. But Leonora had a spirit that could not be confined by expectations. She proved that a woman could be so much more—strong, independent, hardworking, and capable of building a life beyond what society had envisioned for her.
She was a devoted mother to eight children, seven of whom survive her: Gina & Scott (husband), Jinky, Garlan & Lorie (wife), Nelson & Maricel (wife), Randell & Sheryll (wife), Noranel & Jeremy (husband), Rionel & Alex (husband). She also leaves behind 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom are part of the legacy of love she leaves behind.
Widowed at the age of 42, Leonora never remarried. Her heart remained devoted to her beloved husband, and her affection and love for him never wavered throughout the years.
Leonora’s faith was evident in the way she lived her life. She trusted God to be her sole provider as she raised her eight children, relying completely on Him even when circumstances were difficult. Her life was a testimony of faith, perseverance, and unwavering dependence on the Lord.
She was known for her generosity, especially toward the people she loved most. Giving came naturally to her—sometimes to a fault—because she simply knew how to give and never how to withhold. Her family was always at the heart of her generosity, and she found joy in caring for those around her.
This feisty, four-foot-eleven lady took great pride in her hard work and independence. She always found ways to remain productive and to contribute meaningfully to her family and community. She loved being surrounded by people, especially those closest to her heart. Her lively spirit, strong will, generous heart, and unmistakable personality made her someone who could never easily be forgotten.
Leonora will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Though her earthly journey has come to an end, the love she gave, the faith she lived by, and the legacy she leaves behind will continue through generations.
