Linda Barmuta Cranfill, a long-time resident of Shoreline, WA, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025 at the age of 82. Linda was born in August, 1942 in Seattle, the first of three children in the Barmuta family. She attended Roosevelt High School and Washington State University where she majored in Merchandising, then worked for Frederick & Nelson and Boeing.
Linda met Steve Cranfill when they were both 16 years old. They married in 1964 and settled in Shoreline where they lived for 50 years. Linda was active in the Shoreline School District PTA, Echo Lake Neighborhood Association, and was a popular Girl Scout leader. She was also an unofficial chauffeur for neighborhood kids, driving Wendy, Lisa, and many others to swim meets, soccer games, and every activity under the sun. (If her station wagon could talk, it would have some tales to tell.) She loved hosting parties and gatherings including holidays, backyard parties, and the neighborhood block party.
Linda loved to travel, whether on Steve’s business trips to Jordan, France, and Hong Kong, or in their motorhome on countless adventures with family and friends. Later, cruising became a favorite pastime, along with their cherished annual trips to Scatchett Head, the Logs, Lake Crabapple, Timberlakes, and Anderson Island.
Linda enjoyed crafts and puzzles, anything she could literally get her hands on. Needlepoint was her passion, earning her several awards at Washington fairs. She was a sudoku enthusiast and loved doing jigsaw puzzles “her way".
Linda was proud of her 50-year membership of the Women’s University Club, and spent many years with the Learn and Earn Investment Club. She had a soft spot for animals, especially her beloved grand-dogs and grand-horses, who no doubt felt they’d hit the jackpot with her as their grandma.
To honor her memory, please consider a donation to EvergreenHealth Foundation Hospice https://evergreenhealthfoundation.com/ways-to-give/hospice/ or to a charity that supports animals—Linda would have loved that.
Linda is survived by Steve, her husband of 60 years; her brother Richard Barmuta (Katrina); her sister Kathleen Butler (Cy); her daughters Wendy Cranfill and Lisa Miniken (Justin); and the many friends she considered family.
Linda always loved a party, so her family is planning a memorial celebration to be held during the summer.
