Maralyn was born on September 4, 1924 in San Francisco, California and was adopted by the Ted and Marian Westfield family of the Westfield Players Theatrical Company on September 23, 1924.
Maralyn loved to learn and loved school. She attended Lake City Elementary School and Seattle's Lincoln High School. She continued her love of learning with other educational opportunities throughout her life. Maralyn began her career in women's clothing sales with Chic Bowlers, a company in which she founded, and later on she changed careers becoming a dental assistant.
She was previously married to Robert Clark and together they had two children, Robin and Timothy. Maralyn was widowed when the children were still young. In 1963, Maralyn and Robert O. Nielsen met at a dance. He quotes "She was the most beautiful Woman I had ever seen" and in 1969 they were married in Edmonds, Washington and had a wonderful life together.
Maralyn was very active. She was an outstanding bowler and a straight-down-the middle golfer, receiving many awards. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and traveling. Her travels included cruises to SE Alaska, trips with her friends to Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama and the Panama Canal as well as several vacations to Hawaii. Other memorable trips included Europe, Scandinavia, England and Ireland as well as senior softball tournaments in Utah and Montana and bowling tournaments throughout Western United States. Of all the activities, hobbies and traveling, Maralyn's greatest joy of all was being a grandmother.
Maralyn leaves behind her husband Robert O. Nielsen, two children Robin Digel (Jon) and Robert "Tim" Nielsen (Lisa), five beautiful granddaughters Lacey Digel, Amanda Nielsen, Makayla Nielsen, Mariah Nielsen and Camille Nielsen. She was blessed with nieces and nephews from the Clark Family and Nielsen Family as well as many friends who were so very dear to her throughout her life.
Thanks to Helen Keller for her words of Wisdom: "...a selfless woman who went throughout her life, helping others. She was chivalrous and a true angel, a lovely woman and we thank her for sharing her life with us.''
Maralyn was our Angel on earth and she will always be remembered.
A Celebration of Maralyn's life will be held on Saturday February 10, 2018 at 11:00 am at Lifetime Celebrations by Washelli, 18224 103rd Avenue NE, Bothell, Washington 98011
