Marc Raymond Linafelter, 76, passed away peacefully at home on July 8, 2026, in Seattle, Washington. He leaves a legacy of love and devotion to his family, friends, and parish. His family was his greatest joy, and he will be deeply missed. Marc is survived by his wife, Michelle; his son, Kyle; many extended family members; and dear lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mary Linafelter.
Born in Seattle on June 23, 1950, Marc was a “Laker” through and through, carrying on his parents’ tradition of service in numerous parish roles. His work as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council member, and active leader of the Parish Life Committee made him a visible presence throughout his more than 65 years in the “Laker” community. Whether he was providing Top Pot doughnuts after Mass for many years or helping organize the annual summer picnic, his weekly life was centered around the OLL calendar of events.
For 43 years, he shared a loving marriage with his wife, Michelle DuPriest Linafelter. Together they built a home filled with love and laughter, where he leaves behind many cherished memories. As a father to Kyle, he loved Cub Scouts, early-morning soccer games, coaching, and marathon homework sessions. Some of the family’s fondest memories, however, came from beloved summer road trips to Yellowstone, Yosemite, the Oregon Coast, and, of course, Disneyland. He even endured the occasional camping expedition, though he often said a two-star hotel with a black-and-white TV was the most rustic “roughing it” he was ready for.
A proud alumnus of Seattle Prep 1968, Washington State University 1973, and University of Puget Sound 1985, Marc was employed by USWest, later Qwest telecommunications, for 29 years where he met his future wife, Michelle. He worked in a variety of positions over the years in marketing, as an internal auditor and later a finance manager.
Marc was an avid sports supporter, spending many autumn weekends cheering on “the Cougs.” Married to a U.W. Husky, this “mixed” football marriage endured numerous Apple Cup weekends spent with lifelong college friends. Annual summer gatherings on Whidbey Island and the New Year’s Eve celebration were highlights for many years. Over the last 15 years, a core group of friends from O’Banion’s tavern, Seattle Prep, and WSU became the monthly breakfast gathering known fondly as M.O.C., or “Men of Cakes,” as in the Men of Pancakes. Even in the week before his passing, Marc was still helping coordinate the July M.O.C. schedule and reminder notices, a role he had carried out for years. Most of these men had been his friends for 40 to 50 years.
Family and friends are invited to gather in the church hall for a remembrance following the service and to celebrate a life well lived.
“His love, wisdom, and gentle spirit will remain forever in our hearts.”
