Margaret G. GullingApril 3, 1928 ~ November 9, 2009Margaret was born in Vandalia, Iowa, April 3, 1928. Margaret had a beautiful voice and loved to sign. In her school days, she was part of a marching band. She led the marching band through town with her baton twirling all the way. Years later, she led music in her church faithfully every Sunday morning. She also led her seven children “in the way they should go” ~ and for this we are very thankful. Margaret married the love of her life, Norman Gulling. They later moved to Seattle following a recruitment from the Boeing Company to Norman, who at that time was working for the Maytag company in Newton, Iowa. The journey to the big city of Seattle, from small town Iowa was daunting for this young country girl.Leaving her Iowa family and all she knew was not easy, it took courage, strength, and dedication to her husband and children. Their move provided new opportunities and allowed them to enjoy the beauty of Washington and experience many new things. One of Margaret’s favorite things to do was to picnic at Mt. Rainier and to soak in the amazing beauty of this majestic mountain that she loved so much.Margaret was truly beautiful in her younger years. At her 80th birthday celebration, a large poster featuring many photos of her was displayed. One of the men at her apartments commented, “Wow, what a babe!” But it was her inner beauty and her kind and gentle way that was even more evident to all who know her.Margaret loved life, to laugh, to visit with people. And no matter what the circumstance, she was always upbeat and positive. She was always thinking of others before herself and she made many sacrifices to help others.Margaret was well known for her love of children. She taught pre-school for many years and retired as a teacher. She was loved by both the children and their parents.Margaret is survived by her seven children, their spouses, and so many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that we cannot count! She is also survived by her sister, two brothers, and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband. We are very grateful to Lina, Joy and all the staff at Lina’s Adult Family Home for the wonderful care and love they gave to Margaret in her final months.Margaret is now home in heaven, happy, at peace, and reunited with her husband, Norman, No more brain tumors. She is singing again ~ with the angels! And yes. She is most likely playing with heaven’s children too!
