In the late 1970’s my professor, Leslie Lipson of Berkeley, drove me up to Camp Casey WA. Margaret Wood was paying tribute to my mentor, Elizabeth Monroe Drews, Leslie’s wife. I had flown 5 times from Portland to Berkeley to take care of Elizabeth during her courageous battle with brain cancer (Glioblastoma). During that time I became part of their family. Elizabeth’s daughter, Karen, and I spent many joyous times together in both Portland & Berkeley until Karen’s death in 2017. 
The Learning Mall that Elizabeth envisioned was the topic of Margaret Wood’s dedication. It was to be a place where older craftsmen & artists taught younger generations the same skills. Margaret’s tribute to Elizabeth was riveting, utterly captivating. 

I stayed at Fort Casey, as did several other classmates  from Portland State University & Prof Lipson. I called Leslie my Jewish Papa & he called me Pattikins. I spoke with him before his passing in the year 2000. He was Jewish & I am a devout Christian. I miss both Leslie, Elizabeth & Karen as well as Karen’s son Gordie. Such is Life. 

My condolences to Margaret’s family or anyone else who loved her. Like Elizabeth, she was a brilliant woman. I have such fond memories of Fort Casey on that sunny weekend. Thank You!
