Beloved Marie Ramstead Zobrist passed peacefully to her heavenly home October 8, 2012 at the Seattle home of her brother John. A very caring and generous woman, Marie leaves behind a wide circle of admiring family and friends, all whom she loved and attended to dearly throughout her lifetime. She was always interesting and interested! Among her many interests were books, music, the beautiful view from her Magnolia home, her Ed Ramstead art gallery, watching the Mariners, Seahawks, (former) Sonics and golf on TV. She would often have a good "rant" about the political world.
Marie was born September 26, 1925 to Ida and Edward Ramstead on the family homestead at Point Agassiz (near Petersburg), Alaska, the sixth of eight children. When the family moved to Washington State she graduated from Chimacum High School, attended Metropolitan Business College in Seattle and was married in 1947. She was preceded in death by her husband, U.S. Army Lt Col Ret Paul S. Zobrist, brothers Milton, James, and Glenn, brother-in-law Arne Lund, sisters-in-law Kathryn and Ruth Ramstead and nephew Roger Ramstead. She is survived by sister Dolores Lund of Kenmore, brothers Arne Ramstead of Shoreline (Rita), John Ramstead of Seattle, Edward Ramstead of Mount Baldy, CA (KayJo), sister-in-law Beverly Ramstead (Poulsbo) and many nieces, nephews, and friends, many of whom considered her a "favorite."
Marie found ways to give wherever she was, whether in her work for the U.S. government, volunteering for the Red Cross around the world while her husband was serving in the Army in France, Bermuda and the U.S., giving of her time and talents to her church (Magnolia Lutheran) and never turning down a request to donate financially to many organizations here and there and everywhere. She didn't own a computer, but kept her word processor going as she volunteered to type and edit for historical societies. She loved taking photos wherever she went, printing and mailing them to all she photographed. She loved her "family" at the U.S. Attorney's office in Seattle where she worked for nearly three decades as a legal assistant/secretary and proofreader extraordinaire, and she was always grateful to her coworkers for their devotion to her.
Marie was a beautiful woman who never left her house without her "face" on (including her ever-present smile), and was always dressed just so and very well accessorized.
