Marjorie Ellen Strong

MARJORIE ELLEN STRONG (aged 93) died peacefully on July 26, 2026. She entered her eternal rest in the company of loving caregivers at the JoyTera Care Home in Lake Forest Park, WA where she had been living since February 2023.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her father James (1947) and her beloved mother Bernice (1990) with whom she enjoyed a close bond which included attending to her mother's failing health until the end of Bernice's life.

Marjorie was born to James and Bernice Strong on October 18, 1932 in Colon, Panama. At that time, her father was working as an engineer on projects related to the Panama Canal. Her father's early and unexpected death in 1947 left Bernice and Marjorie on their own without a source of income. This hardship led Bernice to get a teacher's degree in order to provide for herself and Marjorie. Such was a teacher's income that Marjorie lived in many different places over time, thus learning to be self-reliant. It also meant that Marjorie and Bernice developed a tight bond as fellow survivors of shared adversity. This bond was most evident as Marjorie attended to Bernice's failing health until she died.

Preferring a solitary life, Marjorie enjoyed the modest blessings of a simple life in Shoreline, WA on a property with many majestic evergreen trees that were home to birds and other wildlife. Throughout her life, Marjorie was a strong advocate for social equality and the care of the planet. She supported the work of the National Audubon Society and PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Marjorie was a lover of cats, frequently providing shelter for them as the opportunity arose.

As her own health grew frail in early 2023, Marjorie became a resident at JoyTera Adult Family Care Home in Lake Forest Park, WA where she was well loved and provided for until her death.

Marjorie is survived by cousins who remember her for her sharp mind, her pioneer spirit, and her capacity to enjoy a simple life without the complications that were often deemed unnecessary. Her delight centered in being grateful for the simple pleasures of nature's beauty in the outdoors.

A brief graveside service will be held for Marjorie on Wednesday, August 19th, at 10 am at the Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home and Cemetery, 11111 Aurora Ave N, Seattle, WA 98133.
