Mary Jane Ostby

Mary Jane Ostby, 88, passed away on April 4, 2023, after a short illness. Mary Jane was born in Leavenworth, Kansas, the only child of Martha May (Cole) and Polk Stubbs. She moved to Seattle in 1973, where she met and married Joseph Ostby. They were happily married 40 years until his passing in 2015.

Joe was a Mason and for many years Mary Jane enjoyed being a member of Masonic women’s organizations. She was a longtime and valued member of Eastern Star where she was Past Worthy Matron of Occidental #28 OES, and also of Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America where she was Past High Priestess of Ahmes Court #41.

Mary Jane was a member of Crown Hill United Methodist Church, where she worked for a time as the church secretary, and Haller Lake United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a niece, Mary Ann (Richard) Lafollette of Easton, MO; step-children Bonnie Munn-Asido of Cheyenne, WY, Joseph Ostby, Jr., and Jay Ostby; and step-niece Meredith (Robert) Chapman of Vancouver, WA.

Memorials may be given in Mary Jane’s name at Haller Lake United Methodist Church, 13055 1st Ave. NE., Seattle, WA 98125, or to Ronald McDonald House.

Interment will be at Evergreen-Washelli Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Sat. April 29 at 2pm at Evergreen-Washell Funeral Home.
