Born on December 8, 1930, in Riverside, California, to Lambert and Helen Ninteman, Mary Lou carried a spirit of curiosity and kindness from her earliest days. She was a woman of sharp intellect, self-taught on many subjects, and almost always had the answer to Final Jeopardy. She had a quick wit and strong but thoughtfully formed opinions, which meant she could talk to anyone and find friends anywhere.
Mary Lou had a long professional career working for Sears and Pacific Bell (now Qwest), where she was respected not only for her expertise but for her mentorship of others. She was a dedicated volunteer for Senior Services of Snohomish County and her community of Wandering Creek, where she was the proud, longtime editor of The Gander newsletter.
A formidable competitor at both pinochle and Mexican Train and an expert at crochet and other needlework, her true passion was travel. Mary Lou was always planning a trip, usually with family and friends, to points all over the globe and loved going by plane, train, cruise ship, car, or RV. She loved this world and always looked for ways to leave it better than she found it.
Mary Lou is survived by her siblings Rick, Lambert, and Bernadette, step-daughters Lauri and Holly, cherished nieces and nephews, and many more loved ones, including her special friend Bob. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dean, her parents, and her siblings Rita, Cecelia, and Joanna. She will be remembered for her annual holiday letters, her Siamese cats, her elegance, her resilience, her independence, and her generosity.
A private service to celebrate her life will be held by family this Summer.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mary Lou's name to the World Wildlife Fund or other organizations supporting animals.
