Born in Kerala, India, Mathew grew up in a close-knit family as one of nine siblings, where he learned the values of hard work, sacrifice, caring for others, and a deep Catholic faith. He earned an Associate’s degree in Medical Technology from Holy Family College of Health Sciences in Delhi, India.
Mathew dedicated nearly 37 years to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he served as a supervisor in the Laboratory Medicine Department and was elected by his peers to represent the union for many years. Those who knew Mathew will remember his kindness, his passion for food and travel, and the way he always put others first.
During a time when arranged marriages were common, Mathew broke the mold by marrying the love of his life, Thresiamma, whom he met while in college. Together they built a marriage that spanned 49 years and created a home defined by warmth, hospitality, and unwavering support for their children.
In addition to his beloved wife, Mathew is survived by his devoted children, Jenny (Ernie) Lobo and Regi (Payel) Vengalil, and his cherished grandchildren, Siena, Eli, Arjun, and Asha, in whom he took immense pride and joy.
A funeral service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Saturday March 21, 2026, followed by burial at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Mathew’s lifelong support of Catholic causes and the needs of those around the world, the family asks that donations be made in his memory to Catholic Relief Services.
