Maurice Everett Hagen

Maury was born on January 31, 1933, in Montana to Alvin and Ariss Hagen, and later moved to Washington State. He grew up alongside his sisters, Adel, Marlys, Alice, and Joan. He later proudly served his country in the United States military before beginning a successful career as an Architect.

As an Architect, Maury spent many years designing buildings throughout the State of Washington. His passion for building extended well beyond his profession. Whether working on his own home or improving the family cabin, he found great joy in creating with his hands and took pride in passing those skills on to his grandsons. His patience, craftsmanship, and work ethic became lessons that will continue through the generations.

Above all else, Maury was devoted to his family. He shared a loving marriage with his wife, Joyce Hagen, and together they traveled the world, built a home filled with warmth and hospitality, and cultivated lasting friendships wherever they went. Maury had a gift for bringing people together, whether hosting gatherings at their home or welcoming family and friends to the cabin on Lake Cavanaugh, where countless memories were made. Those who knew him will remember his warm smile, kind spirit, easygoing nature, Norwegian stubbornness, and the familiar sight of him enjoying good conversation with a martini in hand.

Maury embraced life's simple pleasures. He loved playing horseshoes, golfing, bowling, and in recent years he looked forward to spending the colder months in Florida, where he could often be found on the golf course nearly every day. He appreciated good company, treasured time with those he loved, and had a winsome personality that made everyone around him feel welcome.

Maury is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Hagen; his daughters, Michelle Swanson (husband Vic Swanson) and Mairalee Cooper; and his grandsons, Victor Swanson Jr., Nicholas Swanson (wife Sarah Swanson), Lucas Swanson (wife Paxton Swanson) and Jack Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his son, Maury Hagen Jr., and leaves behind a family who will forever cherish his love, guidance, and example.

Maury's legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply, the homes and buildings he helped create, the lessons he shared through his craftsmanship, and the countless memories made around the dinner table, on the golf course, at the lake, and wherever family gathered. He will be remembered for his generosity, quiet strength, unwavering love for his family, and a life well lived.
