Born in Toysan, Guangdong Province, China, on December 12, 1925, Mei's journey was one marked by strength and determination. She weathered the hardships of World War II as a young teenager. Mei and her husband, Soo Hing Tom, ventured to Hong Kong before immigrating to Seattle in 1966.
Mei's life was a tapestry of talents and skills. Growing up, she demonstrated her aptitude for hard work and resourcefulness, whether it was catching fish with her bare hands, farming, or showcasing her remarkable math skills in the marketplace. Mei's seamstress skills extended to her professional life, where she excelled in garment factories, crafting a wide range of clothing items. Gardening and cooking were her passions. Her garden's produce and her culinary creations left an indelible mark with their distinct and memorable flavors.
Mei was a devout Christian who embraced her faith later in life. She became a prayer warrior for her family. Mei’s home was a sanctuary for many, a place where she cultivated an atmosphere of warmth and care. Her legacy of selfless love, generosity, and unwavering commitment to excellence, will continue to inspire all who knew her. Mei is survived by her four children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a sister, a brother, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
