Our beloved mother, Meriel Price, was welcomed into her heavenly home on February 14, 2026. Her family was by her side as her earthly life ended and she found herself in the presence of Jesus with all who went before. We can only imagine the joy that was hers!
Meriel was born September 1, 1932 to Raymond and Nellie Aikens in Trenton, Michigan. She was the middle child between sisters Carmen and Carol. Her family lived in Lincoln Park, Michigan until Meriel was 12 years old at which time they moved to Arizona. Her high school years were in Casa Grande, AZ and Long Beach, CA.
Following graduation, Meriel took courses at Long Beach Community College while working at a local hospital and then the U.S. Army at San Pedro, CA. She married Wendell Walter Price in 1951. They began their life of ministry in Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches while Wendell completed his seminary degrees. They served churches in Fullerton, CA, Richmond, CA, Chicago, IL, and Seattle, WA.
Meriel supported her husband’s work while taking primary responsibility for caring for their four children: Wendy, Mark, Carrie and Lisa. She opened their home while generously sharing meals with congregants, missionaries, and friends.
Meriel served in secretarial rolls as well as writing/editing at schools, churches and at the Alliance Life magazine. While living in Nyack, NY she was employed at World Relief Refugee Services. As a result, Wendell and Meriel had the joy of sponsoring a Cambodian refugee family.
Following her husband’s death in 1987, Meriel was employed in the School of Education at Seattle Pacific University until her retirement in 1996. She then moved closer to family in Moses Lake and then Seattle/Kenmore. In October 2013 she settled at Warm Beach Senior Community in Stanwood, WA where she enjoyed her last years among likeminded friends until her home-going.
Meriel had a lovely singing voice. She sang in church choirs wherever she lived beginning at age 13. She was the vocalist for 15 years with a group called the Gospelers. She was a soloist and sang in many trios over the years. Until her passing, she loved singing with her friends in the Warm Beach Choir.
Meriel found her greatest joy in her family. Seeing her children follow the Lord and serve Him in various ways. She loved watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren playing sports, performing in musical and drama events, and as often as possible, attended birthday parties and graduations.
Meriel wasn’t a professional teacher, however, she loved to write and enjoyed sharing her writing interests with friends by leading Creative Writing classes and teaching her grandchildren to write their own stories. She left prepared books of memorable life stories for her family and has for many years encouraged others to create such documents for their families as well. She was an avid reader until she lost much of her vision in recent years. That was a very difficult reality for her to accept.
Meriel is survived by her younger sister, Edith Carol (Aikens) Harvey. Her four children and their spouses: Wendyne (Price) Kennedy (Greg), Mark Price (Deb), Carrie (Price) Bassett (Mark), and Lisa (Price) Cloyd (Tim). Her 11 grandchildren and their spouses: Brooke (Kennedy) August (Joey), Chad Kennedy, Christopher Kennedy (Emily), Jacob Price, Megan Price, Ryan Price (Laura), Annalee Bassett, Jesse Bassett (Lauren), Brendon Cloyd (Brittany), Miranda (Cloyd) Timofeyev (Elijah) and Maddison (Cloyd) Edick (Will). And her 15 great grandchildren in order of their birth: Jack, Finnian, Jake, Penelope, Millie, Violet, Alora, Felix, Margot, Lewis, Emmelyn, Azaria, Maisy, Elyse and Shiloh.
“Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:” Proverbs 31:28 ESV We love you Mom and will miss you greatly. Until we meet again...
