Michiko Murakami, 96, passed away peacefully in her home in Bellevue, Washington on November 17th to be with her Lord and reunite in heaven with her husband of 60 years, Kazuo Murakami. Michi was born in Seattle as one of four daughters to Tokio and Sadako Akagi. Soon after graduating from Broadway High School, the family was relocated to a WWII internment camp in Minidoka, Idaho. She was permitted to leave camp and obtain a nursing degree at St. Joseph School of Nursing in Elgin, Illinois doing much of her training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Following the war, the family returned to Seattle and Michi worked as a nurse for many years at Seattle Children's Orthopedic Hospital (previously located on Queen Anne Hill) and Providence Medical Center. Michi and her sisters also helped their parents manage the Glen Hotel on 3rd Avenue. She married Kazuo Murakami, a decorated WWII veteran of the Nisei 442nd Infantry. Together they raised four children in the Seattle area until retiring and moving to Bellevue. Michi is preceded in death by her husband Kazuo "Gus", her parents, Tokio and Sadako Akagi, and her sister Masako (Rikuma). She is survived by sisters Toshi Okamoto and Kachi Ikeda, children Paul (Kathy Yee), Karen (Allan Goldberg), Craig (Barbara), Teresa (Elliott Dun), grandchildren Trevor, Chris (Rei), Lee and Elliott, great granddaughter Moriko, and many nieces and nephews. She cherished the fellowship of friends at Faith Bible Church and dedicated her life to family and nursing. The family would like to thank her caregivers, Sumiko and Yumiko.
