

Mickey, age 77, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2010 in Bellevue Washington, after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Seattle on May 13, 1933 to Birger C. and Mabel I. Nelson of Seattle. He was a long time resident of Kenmore.
Mickey was raised in Ballard and was extremely proud of his Norwegian heritage. He attended Ballard High School through his junior year, moving to Mt. Vernon to live with an uncle due to the death of his Mother. He graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1951, and kept in touch with friends from both schools, regularly attending class reunions.
After graduating from high school, Mick proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1952-1955. He attended the University of Washington where he met his former wife Marilyn. He then began working for the United States Postal Service, first as a Special Delivery Carrier and ultimately retiring as a supervisor at the Main Seattle Terminal in 1988, after a 30+year career. He was a successful investor in local real estate.
Mickey's passion for cars ran deep. He was an active member of The Cadillac & LaSalle Club, Pacific Northwest Region, and the Puget Sound Chapter of The Oldsmobile Club of America. He enjoyed showing his cars at numerous events over the years. He had also been a member of the Elk's Club - Lake City Chapter, and Toastmasters. Mickey was very outgoing and engaging, he made friends wherever he went.
Above all, Mickey treasured his family. Family gatherings, jovial conversations, and time together were very important to him. He loved all of his relatives and had a special 'like a brother' relationship with his Cousin Bill Iverson. Mickey had a devoted, unwavering love for his sons, grandkids, and daughter-in law Loree.
Mickey is survived by, his sons Michael (Loree) and Mark, his grandchildren Barrett, Carter, Maxwell, sister-in-law Shirley, nephew Gary, many cousins and other relatives, and countless friends. Mickey was preceded in death by brother Walter Truman Nelson.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brighton Gardens of Bellevue, where Mickey received excellent care, compassion and love.
