Age 81. Born in Solsvik, Fjell, Hordaland, Norway. He was the youngest of eight children born to Bernt Orjan Orjansen and Maria Toft-Nilsen. He grew to adulthood in his native Norway and served in the Norwegian Navy during the Second World War. During the war he served onboard the destroyer escort Glaisdale. Following the war he immigrated to the United States at the age of twenty four. He arrived in New York City on February 17, 1948 onboard the Norwegian passenger ship S.S. Stavangerfjord. He became a United States citizen on April 11, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. On August 29, 1953 he entered into marriage in Seattle, Washington with Emilia Monica Wandler, daughter of Sebastian and Frances Isabel Senn Wandler. Their marriage produced two children: Nils Martin Solsvik Jr. and Lawrence Dean Solsvik Deceased. In the mid 1950's he moved his family to the Ballard community of Seattle where he spent the remainder of his days. During his younger years he worked as a commercial fisherman primarily in Alaska, fishing halibut, tuna, cod and crab. In 1965 he joined the Pacific Maritime Association and worked as a longshoreman for local nineteen until his retirement from the Seattle waterfront in the early 1980's. The last several years of his life saw him in declining health from increased respiratory difficulties. He enjoyed "puttering" around in the basement, working on numerous projects and spending time with family and friends. In lieu of services the family requests remembrances be made to the Seattle Fire Department's Medic One Foundation.
