Norma Washkovich graduated into her eternal life on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2021. Her final days were spent surrounded by family. She was blessed with a long fruitful life of 97-1/2 years. She is survived by daughters Jann, Joyce and Laurie, and Son-in-Laws, Stephen and Mark. She was preceded by her husband Edward and daughter Leslie.
She was born in O'Donnell Texas in 1924, just after the end of the depression, and beginning recovery from WW1. Her father was a farmer and they moved around Texas and Oklahoma for work. She had 6 brothers and sisters, all whom she outlived. She learned how to play baseball, and her skills made a name for her in the game. At 16 years old, she had a life altering experience of receiving the Lord into her heart, which powerfully changed her life forever.
When WW2 began, she moved to California to live with her sister, and work in the airplane factories. She installed and riveted the windshields on airplanes. She shared, that there was no inspection, and her steps were the final addition before the planes were shipped off to war. Norma met Eddie in his Naval uniform, her husband-to-be, at a wartime dance. Ed had bet his friends he could get that beautiful redhead to dance with him. It took 4 attempts, but she finally accepted, and that was the beginning of their story. The day the war was over, and President Truman announced that Japan had surrendered, was the day of their wedding rehearsal. The end of the war opened new doors of opportunity for the young couple. Norma encouraged Ed to use his G.I. bill, and get a college education. She worked at Owl drugstore and Walker Scott, and Eddie had a bread route until he received his Accounting and Business degree.
Norma had four daughters, and was all about being a Mother. She focused on teaching them about The Lord. The girls always knew, no matter where they might be in the world, their mom would be praying for them. She taught them the basics of life. . . that there is dignity in work, that prayer is powerful, that God's Word must be read daily, that marriage is worth fighting for, and that even parents make mistakes. These principles guided her through using her life to serve the Lord. Norma was always known as the evangelist who would promote Salvation. Even after a heart attack in 2015, she told the Lord she could no longer go out and find the unsaved, and that He must bring them to her door. . . . .and to her door they came! UPS drivers, neighbors, yard workers and even all the pharmacists at her local Costco! Hundreds came to know Jesus through her leading. Her family is certain, she was welcomed on Christmas Eve by these many souls!
After her husband of 74 years passed in 2019, she moved to Parker, Colorado, to reside in Morning Star Assisted Living, near 2 daughters and their families. She loved it, and continued to share the name of Jesus to all she knew. She said, "as long as the Lord can use me, He will bless my continued life"! Her family believes that has proven true. Norma quietly slipped away in her sleep, and entered Glory just in time for Christmas with Jesus. ✝️
"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord
and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,
you will be saved". Romans 10:9
