December 23, 1925 – January 24, 2008
Pat Mucklestone unexpectedly passed away peacefully on January 24, 2008. She was admitted to the Washington State Bar Association in 1949 at the age of 23, was a prominent Seattle attorney and Pro Tem Judge in Seattle Municipal Court. Most importantly, however, she was the best, most inspirational Mom with whom a family could have been blessed.
Pat and her brother, Dr. Michael Francis Shanahan II, were raised by their parents Michael Francis and Flora Shanahan in the West Seattle neighborhood of Seattle, where Pat attended the Holy Rosary Elementary School and graduated from Holy Names Academy in 1943. She was a graduate of the University of Washington, as well as the University of Washington School of Law. During her years at the University, Pat became a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority.
In 1956, she married John Presley Mucklestone and together they established the well known Seattle law firm of Mucklestone and Mucklestone. John passed away in 2003. During their 47 year marriage, John and Pat had four children. One became a successful artist who now resides in Oregon, and three others became attorneys who worked at the firm. In 1999, Pat was inducted into Honorary Membership Status after 50 years in the Washington State Bar Association.
Pat served as a role model for her family, friends, clients and colleagues with her gracious spirit, sense of humor and zest for life. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, skiing, and the outdoors. She always believed that one could achieve anything, so long as they put their mind to the task and were willing to work for it. Her attitude was put to the test when in 1986 she was in a near fatal car accident and suffered a devastating head injury, spending nearly nine months in a coma. With the support and devoted assistance of her husband John, Pat fought back vigorously to reclaim an excellent quality of life. She returned only last Monday morning from Maui where she had been vacationing with daughter Jeannie, son John and their families. Pat and her family will be forever grateful to the doctors and staff at Harborview Medical Center for saving, and extending Pat's life an additional 21 years. Pat will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Pat is survived by her four children and their spouses: Jan husband Russ Wiedoff of North Bend, Ore, John wife Tammy of Woodinville, Geannie husband Michael Kenny of Mercer Island and James wife Amy of Arlington; 12 grandchildren; her brother, Dr. Michael Francis Shanahan II and his wife Ann, and many cherished nieces and nephews. A memorial service and celebration of Pat's life is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2008 at the Evergreen-Washelli Chapel, 11111 Aurora Ave N., Seattle. Pat will be buried along side her husband John in Arlington Municipal Cemetery, Arlington, WA., following the memorial service. A reception is also scheduled.
