Pat met his wife, Mitzi Mary Ann while they were in Kindergarten. His mother tells that when he was 13 years old, he told her he would marry Mitzi. After graduation from Blanchet High School in 1962, they married at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Their marriage was blessed with three wonderful children: Rick Dana Hayden of Poulsbo, Kris Andy Newland of San Jose, CA, and Karin Paix Irigon of Shoreline. The pride and joy of his life were his grandchildren: Hank and Sam Hayden, Andrew and Nicole Newland. He leaves his beloved 96 year old mother, Eleanor Hayden; sister Judy Wayne Wilhelm of Port Angeles and family; sister-in-law Joyce Chuck Jensen of Camano Island and family; best friends Tina and Bill Morgan and their families; and numerous dearly loved family and friends, including Andy?s dad, Jim Newland, and Paix?s parents, Frank and Felicita Irigon and family. Pat retired on a disability from GE #63 in 1990. Pat and Mitzi were never apart from then on. Pat was an involved dad and loved his kids and their friends. He was a member of UNIVAC and coached football, baseball, basketball, and girls? softball for his kids? teams. They loved snow skiing, dirt bike riding, and Sea-dooing as a family, until 1994, when he broke his back and neck C3-C7? same as Superman!. He then became active in the SLD parents? group as Treasurer, was a VP of Kellogg and Shorecrest PTA?s, winning State PTA awards for his newsletters; twice, he received the highest volunteer recognition, the Golden Acorn. He was a member of Sigma Kappa parents? club at the UW for Karin; was the Editor of the Birch Bay Leisure Park newsletter for 8+ years; and was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church. Pat was frustrated with his increasing disability but never said, ?Why me'? He appreciated and deeply loved Mitzi and expressed that openly and often to his doctors, nurses, and family. He was patient and appreciative as his needs were met. Pat suffered serious neck surgeries, 3 heart attacks, a stroke, TIA?s, and kidney failure, always bouncing back like the Energizer bunny, with the goal of walking Karin down the aisle. Against all odds, because of the devastating rare condition he had Nephrogenic Fibrosing Dermopathy - only 170 people in the world have it ? see www.pathmax.com/dermweb, he met his goal on New Year?s Eve 2005, when he had the honor of escorting Karin at her wedding. Pat was much loved and he loved much. Nothing loved is ever lost. We carry him in our hearts until we meet again in heaven.
The family deeply appreciates the love and care given him by the staff at Lake City Kidney Center and Northwest Hospital and the faithful ministering of Rev. Lloyd Willweber.
