Peter David Walther

After graduating from Edmonds High School (1980) and Carroll College (1984), Peter earned his Masters of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Montana (2005), where his thesis “Six Sixty-minute Mystery Plays” is still accessible through the online archives.

Peter was an actor, director, and playwright, performing at the Firehouse 5 Playhouse and the Shane Lalani Center for the Arts in Livingston MT. Peter devoted the majority of his career to The Virginia City Players, a theater troupe specializing in 20th century plays and vaudevilles at the Virginia City Opera House. There he wrote and/or adapted twenty-one plays and vaudevilles reviews. Peter was a member of the Screen Actors Guild and Actors Equity.

Peter’s official residence was in a little cabin on the hill in Virginia City, Montana. He was a proud member and Past Master of Virginia City Lodge #1, A.F.&A.M. of Montana, a long-time Noble of Bagdad Shriners in Butte, and a member of Court #23, Royal Order of Jesters. Peter was also active in the Virginia City Elks. When he wasn’t behind a typewriter, on stage, or serving at community events, he was a volunteer fireman in Livingston and Virginia City. Peter served two four-year terms on the Virginia City council (including two and a half years as Mayor.)

Peter loved musicals, mystery novels, and cooking shows. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed hosting large gatherings.

Peter is survived by his son Quintin Degel (formerly Nicole), his mother Ann, his brothers Bill (Mary Lou) and Richard (Elizabeth), his nephews Eric (Callie) and Mark. Preceding Peter in death are his father Dan and brother Jimmy.

A private burial has taken place in Seattle.

Memorial celebrations will be held on May 23 at 4:30 in Anthony’s HomePort Waterfront Room, 456 Admiral Way in Edmonds, WA and on September 13 in Virginia City, MT.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in his memory to Bagdad Shriners Children’s Transportation Fund (314 West Park Street, Butte MT 59701), which transports patients to their hospitals for treatment.
