Phil was the only child of Jesse and Ralph Dixon. He was born in Oceanside, CA on August 29, 1947. The family moved to a farm in Idaho Falls, Idaho when Phil was two. He was surrounded by animals, and especially loved his dog Bingo and his horse, Susie. Phil was happiest when he was outdoors. He loved wandering the foothills and the high desert of eastern Idaho. Phil could tell you what bird made which call, and could identify a multitude of plants and wildlife.
Phil graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1965. He enlisted in the Air Force in December of that year, serving until February 1970. His service took him to bases in the States, Thailand, and Spain.
When he returned to Idaho Falls, he met Karen Casper. They were married on July 9, 1971. They moved to Kirkland a month later where Phil attended Northwest College for one year. In 1974 Phil began a career with Hirschler Manufacturing in Kirkland. He started as a machinist, making precision airplane parts for The Boeing Co. He eventually became Quality Control manager, retiring in August 2014 after 40 years with the company. Phil and Karen remained in Kirkland where they raised their sons Bryan and Joel.
Phil was a Tiger Cub Scout leader and went on many Boy Scout outings with his sons. At one time Phil was an avid bicyclist, completing the Seattle to Portland ride numerous times. He and Karen enjoyed hiking, birding and kayaking together, and they traveled extensively. They especially enjoyed their tradition of camping with Bryan and Joel and family friends at Birch Bay, and celebrating holidays with another group of cherished friends over the years.
Phil served in several capacities in his church home: elder, worship leader, home group leader, usher and greeter. He loved people and found great joy in serving and helping others. Phil made lasting friendships, and will be remembered as a gentle and kind man with a playful sense of humor. His unforced faithfulness to God and family made it a joy to be around him.
Phil was preceeded in death by his parents, Ralph and Jesse Dixon. He is survived by Karen, his wife of 46 years, his sons Bryan and Joel, and granddaughter Chloe. He will be deeply missed by his family and many cherished friends.
