Robert H Krussel was born July 22 1931 on a farm during the great depression in Nebraska. He moved to Palouse when he was 5 years old and stayed throughout High School. After High School, he worked nights in the lumber mill. He knew there was a better way of life instead of working at a lumber mill so shortly thereafter; he enlisted in with the Air Force so he would be able to go to College on the GI Bill. During the Air Force, he was a technician for radar, bomb and gun sights and became Staff Sergeant during the Korean War. After the Air Force, Robert used the GI Bill to attend Washington State University. During College, he founded and co-built a dormitory radio station, and won first place with the National Engineering Society for the design and building of an "Automatic Garage Door Opener" . He graduated in 1956 with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
After graduation, he began to work for Boeing where he was Lead Engineer. He then worked for this pilot's license, which he received. Robert then went to Rocket Research Corp, as a Laboratory Manager. After some years of making money for other people, he wanted to make money for himself, so he co-founded Hytek Technology. This is one of the riskiest things Robert has ever done. He realized that not only could he make money, but he could show the society what he has to offer and what science can do for them. Robert, the president was co-inventor of a "Credit Card Reader", which was the foundation of Hytek. He also invented a "Newspaper Communicator", which let newspapers communicate stories, and a "Credit Card Checker", which calls the company and asks for the approval of the use of the card.
His company had a great effect on technology of today. They were the first ones with these ideas. The problem was they were ahead of their times. Robert knew there was an even better way to live, so he started investing and bought his first building in 1974 in Bremerton for $10.00 down. He also continued to work as an Engineer and that same year, married the love of his life, Arlene.
Robert finally retired from the Navy Shipyard at age 55, which left him more time to spend with his family and work on his properties amongst many other side projects that kept him busy.
Robert loved spending his time working on his boat, inventing new gadgets and tinkering in his workshop. Whenever we spent time with him, he made it a learning experience. He was always teaching us something new or giving us words of wisdom we would never forget. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and seeing our own creative juices flow. He took much pride in seeing us figure things out and learning from our experiences.
Robert was an inventor, an entrepreneur, and most importantly he was a faithful and devoted Husband and Father. He took care of his wife and provided for his family. He built and left a standing legacy that will forever continue on. Upon moments of meeting him, it was obvious his kindness and sincerity filled the room and was always willing to help. Robert was not a man of many words, but when he did speak, you sure listened. He was smart beyond his means, and the most humble and kind man I ever met.
Bob is survived by his wife Arlene, his two daughters Teri and Joan, his son John, his 6 grandchildren and 2 great -grandchildren.
Bob is preceded in death by his Mom Mary, Dad, Henry, and little Brother, Jim.
The family of Robert Krussel would like to thank everyone for their encouraging words and prayers during this time.
