Robert Edward LUDBROOK

April 30, 1921July 6, 2018

Robert E. (Bob) Ludbrook passed away peacefully from pneumonia and complications of aging on July 6, 2018. He was 97.

Bob was born on April 30, 1921 in Edmonton, Alberta, to Robert and Elizabeth Ludbrook, who hailed from England. They eventually settled in Victoria, B.C. Bob and his elder brother Keith grew up enjoying an active Pacific Northwest outdoor lifestyle. Keith passed in 2014 and is survived by his wife Verna and two daughters.

Bob and his childhood buddy, David McKean, both joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, serving as aircraft mechanics on bases in England during WWII. In later years, Bob enjoyed reunions with his old squadron. After the war, Bob settled in Vancouver, B.C. and worked for McIntosh Supply, installing fuel systems for airports, harbors, and mines. He particularly enjoyed the projects that took him to remote locations across Canada.

Bob married Marjorie Elizabeth Watson in the early 1950’s. They did not have children, but Bob and Marge are fondly remembered for hosting Watson teens for ski trips and other adventures during their tumultuous teenage years. Marge passed away in the late 1970’s and Bob retired from McIntosh.

In the early 1980’s, Bob began corresponding with his old childhood friend’s widow who lived in Seattle. Bob married Betty Lou McKean in September of 1985. Over the ensuing years, Bob became “Grampa Bob” to numerous grand- and great-grandchildren in his wife’s extended family. They made their home in Kent, Washington, and enjoyed traveling. Bob became a Mason, Delta Lodge, and he and Betty Lou were also active in Eastern Star and the White Shrine. They made friends all over the world as a result of these affiliations.

Bob remained an active and accomplished golf enthusiast until his health deteriorated. His beloved Betty Lou passed in November of 2017.

Bob Ludbrook will be remembered as a gregarious man with a huge smile. He was generous with his time and affection--and most especially for his love of telling a story. His passing truly represents the end of an era. A brief graveside service is planned on Thursday, July 12, at 2 pm at Riverton Crest Cemetery in Tukwila, Washington, followed by a gathering at the family home in Kent.
