Robert Kenji Nakata

Robert Kenji Nakata was born on October 27th, 1935 on Bainbridge Island, Washington to parents John and Pauline Nakata. He passed peacefully on June 25th, 2026 surrounded by his wife Sally, sons Tony and David (Nichelle) and grand children Brandon , Colten (Woo), Hope, Whitney and Ashley.

After graduating from Bainbridge Island High School in 1953, he was accepted into the Boeing Airplane Company machine apprenticeship program. He completed the program in 1959 and worked on the Boeing 707. In 1965 he was chosen to participate in Boeing’s Numerical Control Programming system and in 1989 was awarded an Outstanding Performance Award for improving the spar mill machining process.

Robert is remembered for the things he loved most: fishing, golfing, cooking, and cheering on his hometown teams. At just sixteen, he landed a 50‑pound salmon while fishing alone, a story he proudly carried throughout his life. He was known for his famous fried chicken wings and his homemade barbecue sauce, both of which became staples at family gatherings. Whether he was watching the Seahawks, Mariners, Huskies, or Sonics, he rooted with unwavering loyalty. His passions, traditions, and the joy he brought to those around him will continue to live on through his family.

He is survived by his wife Sally, sons Tony and David, grandchildren Colten (Woo), Brandon, Hope, Whitney and Ashley and brothers Wayne (Judy) and Vernon (Amy).
