Robert (Bob) Sunderland was born in Bismark, North Dakota to Emil and Esther Sunderland. He was the third of five children. Bob graduated from Bremerton High School in 1953, and trained as a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyards. He spent three years in the Army, stationed at Ft. Bliss in Texas before working as an Atmospheric Science Technician for the University of Washington for 28 years.
Bob was a volunteer with the Gideons and Awana Youth Programs and was very active with the Sons of Norway. He was an avid traveler, a competitive cross-country skier, and loved spending time with family and friends. Bob was particularly fond of his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers Lyle and Gary, sister Betty Jenkins, and step-son Dan Marsland. He is survived by his wife Maralyn, sister Carol (John) Droppert, children Mike (Nellie) Sunderland, Wendy McDermott, Katie (John) Verd, Dave (Debbie) Marsland, Dale (LaVonne) Marsland, Deana (Dave) Shuck, Grace (Ryan) Kleps, Gerald (Paula) Marsland, numerous grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Bob will be terribly missed - his gentle nature and dry sense of humor blessed so many lives. He was a wonderful husband, an amazing father, and a dear friend to many. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of All About Seniors adult family home, for the loving care they provided over the past year and a half.
A Memorial Service will be held for Bob on Saturday, November 25th at 2:00 pm at Three Tree Community Church, 16261 1st Avenue South, Burien, Washington
