
Roger Elkins Johnson, born May 8th, 1920, in Seaside, Oregon, passed away on Jaunary 14th, 2003 at his home in Mountlake Terrace, Washington. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen, their three adult children:Elizabeth Steve Bartelmez, William Lori Johnson, and Roberta John Olson; five grandchildren: David Deirdre Carlson and Dylan Carlson, Alyssa Michael Bundy, Trevor and Meagan Johnson, and one great-grandchild, Peyton Bundy. Roger is also survived by his two brothers, William Doris Johnson of Hillsboro, Oregon, and Joseph Joanne Johnson, of Woodland, Washington. Roger served in the Armed Services between 1939 and 1959. He was with the Second Marine Division in the South Pacific and saw action at Guadalcanal in 1942. He met his wife Helen in England in 1944 when Helen, born in Fife, Scotland, was serving in the British army. They were married in August, 1944. Roger also served in the Korean war. He retired from the Navy in 1959 and attended Clark College and the University of Washington. Roger worked for the Pacific National Bank of Washington between 1962 and 1976.Everyone will remember Roger as a man who unfailingly came to their aid when they needed help, his keen intellect, droll humor, and passion for classical music and opera. His family will remember him for his boundless love and support.
