Rute VIRSNIEKS Our beloved mother passed away January 21,2010 in Seattle, at the age of 98. She was born on October 25,1911 in Aizpute, Latvia, the daughter of Vilis and Otilija Grintals, and has been a resident of Seattle for 50 years. Along with our father she provided our family a new and rewarding life in the United States of America by fleeing the terrible times of the Second World War and the Soviet tyranny that ensued in 1944 via Germany and England. During her many retirement years she enjoyed very much bicycling around Greenlake, composing poetry, creative writing classes, tai chi, putt putt golf and German conversation meetings with son Andris. She, also especially enjoyed her annual visits with her niece Dzintra and her family in Alaska. And need we say her many shopping trips downtown? She was preceded in death by her husband Janis Virsnieks of 55 years. Survived by loving sons Imants Virsnieks of San Diego, Andris Virsnieks and wife Jessica Stevens of Seattle, Egils Virsnieks of Seattle, loving grandchildren Gillian L.V. Eichhorst, Meaghan C. Virsnieks both of Virginia and numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews in the United States and Latvia and extended family and friends.
