Ruth Ann Brothers Hiserman was born in Pocatello, Idaho on December 4, 1920 to Dr. William Wesley and Mildred Alice Brothers. She passed away peacefully January 4, 2017 in Shoreline, Washington. She enjoyed her elementary and high school years in Pocatello as well as spending her summers at the family cabin in Big Springs, Idaho along with her brother Lt. Col William W. Brothers Jr. Ruth Ann left Pocatello after high school to attend Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. It was there that Ruth Ann met and married her college sweetheart Stanley J. Hiserman in May of 1941. During the war years Ruth Ann and Stan lived in California and Texas while Stan served as a captain in the U.S. Army. After the war, Stan began his career as a track coach at the University of Idaho in Moscow Idaho and eventually the University of Washington in Seattle Washington where the family set down their roots.
Ruth Ann excelled at art, cooking, gardening and all things creative. She was a tireless coach's wife and entertained visiting coaches and athlete's families. She served as President of the Faculty Wives Club of the University of Washington in 1965 and various boards and committees as well as the Camp Fire Girls and the Faculty Wives Garden Club. Ruth Ann was an avid sports fan and enjoyed all Husky sports and Seattle professional teams.
She and Stan had three children: Jane Collins (Thomas R. Collins) of Mukilteo, Washington, Stan Hiserman (Mary Cairns) of Seattle, Washington and Sally Hiserman (Richard Truax), also of Seattle, Washington. Ruth Ann passed on her love of Big Springs, Idaho to her children sharing the family cabin with them throughout the years creating a trio of fly fishing, berry picking and mushroom gathering experts who still journey back to her cabin every summer. In later years, she was an artist with her knitting needles creating gorgeous sweaters for family and friends as well as customers. When her eyes failed her she turned her quick wit and creative mind to poetry and storytelling. Ruth Ann continued to go to her cabin in Idaho throughout her life up until it was no longer possible for her to stay there on her own. It was there on the river that she was happiest. It provided a gathering point for Ruth Ann and her brother, her children and extended family.
Ruth Ann is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Mary Alice, her brother Bill, and former husband Stan. Ruth Ann is survived by her three children and their spouses, her five grandchildren (Charlie Collins (Ute Collins) of Anacortes, Washington, Laura Collins of Everett, Washington, Zoe Hiserman Rooney (John Rooney) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Wes Hiserman (Desiree Gonzalez) of Seattle, Washington and Emilia Jane Truax of Seattle, Washington) as well as two great grandsons (Johnny and Pete Rooney of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania).
The family wishes to express our utmost gratitude to the care givers of Prosperous Care Services for their loving care of our mother over the past few years. The family will have a private celebration of her life at the cabin at Big Springs where her heart has always been and where she and her children have shared so many memorable summers together.
