Sachiyo Yamazaki Wegrich passed away peacefully at home in Edmonds, Washington, on June 2, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. She was 49.
Born in Tokyo in 1975, Sachiyo moved to Seattle at age 12. She embraced life and new relationships in the U.S., while remaining deeply connected to her Japanese roots – finding joy in tea ceremony, cooking traditional meals, and the art of origami.
Sachiyo graduated from Washington State University with a bachelor’s degree and built a successful career as a real estate broker. Her work was driven by a genuine desire to help people find a home or perfect location for their small business.
Her personal life was just as full of heart. Though she and her high school sweetheart, Jon Ikegami, took different paths after graduation, they reunited in 2016 and were married in 2020. Their love story picked up right where it left off, opening a joyful new chapter filled with shared passions, laughter, and quiet everyday moments. At the heart of their home was Luke, their beloved dog and Sachiyo’s constant companion. Whether she was running errands, grabbing coffee, visiting family, or heading to dinner, Luke was always with her. She spoiled him with toys, cozy sweaters, and more affection.
A deeply spiritual and artistic soul, Sachiyo’s Catholic faith gave her strength, especially in her final years. She remained kind, compassionate, and full of grace through every stage of her illness. Despite years of treatment, she stayed positive and strong, inspiring everyone around her.
Sachiyo had a special gift for art, creating needle-felted animals, detailed miniatures, and beautiful watercolor paintings. Her handmade jewelry, especially the necklaces she designed for her church community and her nieces, brought real joy to those who received them. She had a way of truly seeing people, and her creations reflected the care and connection she felt for them.
Sachiyo loved travel, happy hours in downtown Edmonds with close friends, and – surprisingly – loud, bass-heavy house music. She made frequent trips to visit family in California, her best friend in Vancouver, BC, and returned to Japan whenever she could.
Sachiyo is survived by her husband Jon, her mother Chikako, her brother Ted and his family.
A funeral service will be held on June 20 at Holy Rosary Church in Edmonds, followed by urn burial at Evergreen Washelli in Seattle. All who knew and loved Sachiyo are welcome to attend and celebrate her extraordinary life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Sachiyo’s honor.
