She was born in Portland Oregon September 9, 1923 to John and Sally Latourette. She grew up in Portland and attended Catalan Gable school. She studied at University of Oregon where she was affiliated with Alpha Phi Sorority, and also attended University of Washington. After college she joined the Waves during WWII and served 2 years in San Diego.
In 1946 she was attending her cousin's wedding in Seattle where she met Rowland Hagyard. There was an instant attraction and almost every weekend Rowland would take the then long 8 hour Seattle to Portland drive to visit Sally. In 1947 they got married.
Sally began her married life in the Edgewater Apartments in Seattle. They moved to the Madrona area to raise their family and later moved to Clyde Hill in Bellevue where they lived for 38 years. Even though most of Sally’s large family lived in Portland, she maintained her strong bond and spent many family holidays along with summers in Gearhart together.
Sally was very athletic and played a lot of golf and tennis. In 1960 she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Even though her walking was affected, she never let her condition diminish her pursuit of interests or enjoyment of life. She remained very active and continued to pursue her passion of gardening, cooking and playing bridge. She also did volunteer work at Overlake Hospital contacting older people who lived alone.
Sally moved to Parkshore retirement home in 2000, about a year after Rowland passed away. She immediately got involved in numerous activities and was able to take the access buss on her motorized scooter to explore the city. She enjoyed going to Mariners games, lectures, museums, Bainbridge Island and other destinations for lunch with her friends. Sally never lost her strong spirit despite her physical challenges.
She is survived by her son, David Hagyard, Los Angeles, her daughter Sally Osborne (Scott), Bainbridge Island, Grandson Andrew Osborne, Seattle, Granddaughter Katy Motley, New York and 3 great granddaughters.
Sally especially loved being surrounded by her family and close friends and will be missed.
