Sammie Lee (Lamb) Monroe was born on March 26, 1937, to the union of Sammy Lamb and VanDee Lamb in Picayune Mississippi. She was the last of the three children and the only girl. Her older brothers were Tommie Earl Lamb and Thomas Ray Lamb who preceded her in death.
Sammie graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1956. She was the Salutatorian of her class After graduation, her cousin suggested she come to Seattle to attend Seattle Pacific College. After graduating from Seattle Pacific College, she moved to Louisiana and taught second grade at Central Free Methodist School from 1962 until 1967. She returned to Seattle and began her teaching tenure at Madrona Elementary School in the highline school district where she taught second grade until her retirement in 2004.
Sammie was involved in Bible Study Fellowship for many years as a teaching leader as well as deeply devoted to the missionary work of Rafiki International. She spent a year in Nairobi Kenya where she taught preschool and enjoyed it so much, she had plans to return as soon as she could.
One message that Sammie would repeat often is, “All I want to do is be pleasing to God. I just want to go to heaven so I can sit at the feet of Jesus and worship God. I hope my life has been pleasing to God because God has been pleasing to me.” Sammie was the model of what worshiping God and following Jesus looks like.
Sammie leaves the family legacy to her nephews, Jason and Michael Lamb and her niece, Tamara Lamb and a host of relatives and friends.
Rest well with the angels Sammie and continue your life’s work in heaven.
