Born January 27th, 1947, in Omak WA to Marie Washburn and Ora J Martin.
Sandie lived with her two grandkids Christian and Sandra and their mother, Beth Herrington, plus Beth’s two other children, Bailey, and Miguel. Beth and Sandie were thick as thieves. They could tag team and coral the kids, then later sit at Jalisco’s together and enjoy their margaritas and girl talk. Beth was a positive force in Sandie’s life and brought so much joy to her, creating a full house surrounded by the loving family she had so longed for.
When her son Chris died in 2006 it left a major void in Sandie's life which she eventually poured into loving her grandkids.
For more than 50 years Sandie worked in childcare. Eventually, she started her very successful business as Aunt Sandie’s Day Care in the Lake City area. She filled the day care with toys and books and lots of hugs. At Christmas and Halloween and Easter, she decorated to the max with lights and blow-up characters and music playing. It was always epic, and her day care kids would beg their parents to take them back to Sandie’s at night so they could experience the holiday magic in the dark.
Sandie was the baby whisperer. She could console any child and know exactly what they needed. Her top priority was making sure every kid felt loved and secure. To that end she provided lots of predictability and routines. From snack time to diaper changes to nap time, everyone knew what came next. There were also bird feeders and playground toys and watching out the window to see the trash being picked up.
When Sandie was a child, the Omak Stampede was a yearly Martin Family tradition and Sandie continued to attend these events even after moving to Seattle. It was a time to watch the stampede and sit in her mom’s back yard together while enjoying food and family.
Sandie was always eager to help others, either financially or by making a dump run or whatever you needed. She made so many donations to so many organizations that she received more calendars each year in the mail than were needed by all her family and friends put together!
When Aunt Zane needed care later in her life, Sandie purchased a second house right up the street from her so that she could be close. Eventually Sandie’s mother lived there with Aunt Zane when she entered hospice care. Sandie was not someone to say no if she thought she could help and could give you her best!
Sandie is often described as a tough cookie, and a force to be reckoned with -and that she was. But she was also a fierce friend and could be one of the best supporters you could ask for in your life. You would be blessed to have her in your corner.
