Shinako Nakatani was born in Seattle Washington on October 6, 1921. She grew up in Eatonville, Washington, graduating from Eatonville High School. She and her parents were relocated initially to Camp Harmony in Puyallup before being interned in Minidoka Idaho during WWII. She later returned to Seattle where she worked as a secretary for the American Red Cross. She met Cyrus Shoichi Noritake, whom she married on January 20, 1959. They had one daughter, Patricia. Shinako and Cyrus were married for 36 years until his death in 1995.
Shinako loved all sports and was a huge fan of all the Seattle sports teams including the University of Washington (UW) Huskies, Supersonics, Seahawks, and Mariners. She also loved playing the slots and going to Reno, Lake Tahoe, and later the casinos around the local area with friends. She had a stroke in 2001, but this did not diminish her determination to remain as independent as she possibly could. Age and declining memory began to take its toll and she moved from the Lakeshore in South Seattle to an adult family home. Shinako accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was later baptized at Japanese Presbyterian Church on May 15, 2016. She remained happy and cheerful throughout her life, always with a smile. She passed away peacefully on July 1, 2018. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her wonderful caregivers at the Pearly Jones Home Magnolia, to Evergreen Home Health and Hospice, and to Drs. Tammira Price and Minori Yoshioka of Virginia Mason for their compassionate medical care.
She is survived by daughter, Patricia (Lance) Matsuda and granddog Kai, Seattle, 2 nieces and 1 nephew. At her request, private family services will be held
