Shirley Arlene (Rundquist) DeYoung, age 79, passed away on April 9, 2015, in Poulsbo, Washington, after a long illness. She was born April 21, 1935, in Seattle (Ballard), Washington, and lived in the Seattle area her entire life. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Wallace James "Jim" DeYoung. She was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend, and will forever be remembered by those she leaves behind.
Shirley's first love was music, and she surrounded herself with music her entire life. She played the violin, had a large music collection, and often went to symphonies, concerts, and operas. She also loved to dance, and met her husband Jim at a dance. In later years, Shirley also enjoyed watching Mariners baseball, playing pinochle, and get-togethers with the ladies of the Red Hat Society. She loved spending time with family, especially her two youngest grandsons. Shirley will be remembered for her comforting presence. She was easy going and approachable, always more comfortable listening than talking.
