

Shirley Meixner was born on September 2,1926 in Seattle, WA to George A. Limbeck and Victoria B R Limbeck. She attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Garfield High School. Shirley met her future husband, Eugene H. Meixner, at a church youth group at Trinity Lutheran. They were married on June 25,1948 and lived on Mercer Island, WA, where they raised their four children. The Meixners moved to Bellevue in 1970. Shirley remained in the family home until the end of 2021, moving to The Golden Age in early 2022.
After completing a Bachelor’s degree in Librarianship, Shirley went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Education. Her career was spent teaching business classes and working in the library at Mercer Island High School. In addition to being a busy mother, running her kids to and from activities (some of which she led), she was also very involved in her church. She participated in meetings, was active in mission & outreach projects, stitched altar sacraments, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Altar Guild. Shirley also loved to play Bridge and Pinnacle with friends and enjoyed her worldwide travels.
As lifelong Lutherans, Shirley and her husband, were founding members of several Puget Sound area churches including Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Bellevue, WA, Christ the King Church in Bellevue, WA and Redeemer Lutheran Church on Mercer Island, WA.
Shirley has joined in Heaven, her beloved husband, Gene Meixner; daughter Janet Anderson; her parents, George and Victoria Limbeck; and her siblings; Audrey Hill and George Limbeck. Shirley is survived by her son, Richard Meixner of Bellevue, WA and her daughters, Tina Borba (Tony) of LaPine, OR and Cindy Brouillette (Steve) of Carnation, WA. Shirley is also survived by grandchildren Danielle Merriam (Steve), Bradi Bergeson (Josh), Maegan Jennett (Patrick), Christopher Brouillette (Kelli), Natasha Miller (Joey), and Emma Munholland (Chris) as well as great-grandchildren Kelsi Bergeson, Faith Miller, Samantha Merriam, Gunnar Munholland, Zoe Jennett, Landen Miller, James Jennett, Isla Munholland, Oliver Jennett, Stella Miller, Kamryn Brouillette, Violet Jennett, and Cooper Brouillette.
Her legacy lives on in the lives she nurtured, the faith she exemplified, and the countless lives she touched.
The family will celebrate Shirley’s life at a service on Saturday, May 3, 2025 and invite you to join them. It will be held at Joy Lutheran Church, located at 10420 SE 11th Street, Bellevue, WA 98004 at 1:00pm.
To honor Shirley, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her memory to LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League) or Lutheran Ministries NW.
