Shuit Moy Yee Lew was born in Toishan, Canton, China in the early 1920’s. She had an older brother who immigrated to Sacramento, CA. Her four nieces and nephews, who still live in Northern California, often made trips up to Seattle to visit their aunt.
She married Git Hor Lew in the 1940’s. then in 1965, she immigrated to Seattle, WA to live with her son Gan Sun Lew. She initially worked in textiles when she arrived in United States. In 1970, her son and daughter-in-law Yim Ching Lew open the original Sun Ya Restaurant located on King St. She and the family worked at the restaurant for 25 years and finally retired in 1995.
Shuit Moy accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at Seattle Chinese Alliance Church in 1974. After retirement she actively served at the church, and often volunteered at Seattle Gospel Center. She was kind hearted, optimistic, and loved to be with the company of other people. She valued being thrifty and not wasteful because these values were ingrained in her as part of her upbringing. However, she was always generous with her heart. Anyone who knew her would say she always had a warm smile and was willing to help out with whatever was needed. She loved cooking for others, going on walks with her friends and attending church events.
She was nearly a hundred years old when she passed away on March 3rd, 2018.
劉余雪梅女士於1920年代初生於中國廣東省台山縣。她於1940年代與劉吉賀先生結婚,並於1965年移民,與兒子劉華安定居於美國西雅圖。雪梅一位長兄早已移居美國加州的Sacramento 市,因此他的四位兒女常從北加州來探望雪梅。
初來美國時,雪梅曾於製衣廠工作。於1970年她與兒子華安與媳婦胡艷貞於華埠開設新雅酒樓,一家人經營餐館業達25年之久,雪梅於1995年退休。
劉雪梅認識主耶穌為個人救主,並於1974年受洗加入西雅圖華人宣道會,退休後更積極於教會事奉及參與西雅圖福音中心作義工。
雪梅為人開朗,慈祥及喜歡與人同樂。她個人生活很簡樸,但對人卻很寛容,樂意幫助有需要者,平時愛烹調食物與人共享,與朋友一起歩行運動,及參與教會活動。
她於2018年3月3日安息主懷,享壽近一百歲。
