
Sonoe Fujihira of Mercer Island passed away on October 1st, 2006 at the age of 76. Sonoe was born in Nagoya, Japan, to Yoshiro and Asao Kumazawa on May 15, 1930 and came to the U.S in 1954. She lived with her beloved husband Mako on Mercer Island for the past 32 years.
Sonoe?s name means ?beautiful branch? in Japanese. Her name is reflective of her life story. Sonoe studied dressmaking in Japan prior to moving to the U.S. where she raised her four children. She was the pillar of her family, always reaching out to them. She always made sure that her family was never in need. She was there to make you smile, laugh, and share a funny story. Sonoe was an inspiration and will be truly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband Mako, her four children and their spouse?s, son Mike and wife Linda, daughter Betty and husband Bret, son Jimmy and wife Nadine, and son John and wife Amy. Sonoe loved and enjoyed her eight grandchildren, Gina, Danielle, Alex, Drew, Troy, Tyler, Michael Jr. and Nauchelle, and her four great Grandchildren Charice, Corbin, Megan, and Sonoi the newest addition to the family.
Sonoe requested a private family service. Her friends and family will celebrate her life at the home of Mako Fujihira on October 14, 2006 at 3:00 PM. Sonoe always said, ?It?s a nice day, let?s go for a ride'? Please pick a nice day, take a ride and think fondly of Sonoe.
