

Steadman A. Mathis Jr. was born in Las Vegas, Nevada at Valley Hospital on August 13, 1984 to the proud parents, Lola Landry and Steadman Alfonso Mathis Sr. He was a happy baby that brought his family a lot of joy. In 1986, at the tender age of two, he relocated with his father and baby sister, in the care of his grandparents Porter Sr. and Gerevia Mathis to Seattle, WA, where he grew up.
In Steadman Jr’s early school years, he attended Hawthorne Elementary school where he was already beginning to be a scholar student receiving the Paul Roberson Award. He went on to attend Mercer Middle School where he continued to be an honor roll student and received many more honors.
Steadman Jr. started playing football at the age of seven for Rainier Beach Little League football team where his father was actively involved as the Athletic Director. Steadman Jr. received many accolades as a scholar athlete, went on to play for Rainier Beach High School Football and Wrestling, which then made it all the way to the State Championship match. He graduated from Rainier Beach High School with honors in 2002. Steadman Jr. received a football scholarship to College of The Redwoods in Eureka, California. He played football for two years, before transferring to Dickinson State University in North Dakota to continue his football career, and receive his BA degree in Psychology. He, along with his girlfriend, Jenna Leonardo, had two sons, Diiaki and MyKah Mathis, who were born in North Dakota before moving back to Seattle, WA where they were raised. His children were very special to him. He was a wonderful a father! He loved and lived his life for his sons, making sure they had fun and enjoyed life. He was an avid outdoor hiker in the great northwest.
He continued his education and received his Master’s Degree in Sports Training and became a trainer at Pro Health Club in Bellevue, WA and worked as a trainer for eight years. Steadman Jr. also participated in Powerlifting competitions on the pro circuit, like his father Steadman Mathis Sr. and following in his footsteps to become a powerlifter winner in state and national titles in bench press and deadlifting.
In September of 2021, Steadman Jr. decided to change his career path and was hired at Chief Sealth International High School, as their Health Specialist to help with COVID protocols, where he quickly moved up to instructional assistant and then to head coach of the Tennis Team. He was planning on getting his PHD in Education.
He was an amazing man, loving son, father, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, friend, and co-worker, who will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Porter Sr. and Gerevia Mathis, and his cousins Darrell “Lil D” and Aaron Green.
He leaves to cherish his memory his sons Diiaki Porter Mathis and MyKah Baryn Mathis, mother Lola Landry, father Steadman Alfonso Mathis Sr. (spouse, Zhalena Mathis), his sisters Melnar Mathis, Janet Mathis, sister Aqueelah Wert, and his brother Carlos Emjay, Aunty LaTonya Breland (husband George Breland) and uncle Porter Mathis III, uncle Greg Landry, grandmother Lucille Carter, cousins Jahleeh, Vashti, and John Porter Breland. Nieces and nephews: Lamarr Oatis Jr., Alyssa Wert, Joel Jr. Ballou, Jett Ballou, Jipsy Ballou, Jazz Ballou, Adi and Nomenoi Emjay, as well as a host of relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, April 7th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Emerald City Community Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 801 25th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98122 with Pastor Eugene Lewis presiding.
