Steven G Butler passed away at his home July 19th 2013. Born in Spokane, November 15th, 1942 to Major Elwyn and Laura Mae Butler, Steve grew up, an army brat, in Seattle, the Philippines and Germany where Steve graduated from high school.
He served in the US Army from 1963 to 1966.
In 1966 he joined the Seattle Police Department and was a street patrolman during that tumultuous era. In 1973 he earned his BA and in 1975 a Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Puget Sound.
After nearly thirty years with the Department Lieutenant Butler retired but retirement life was too inactive so he began a new career as Security Officer for vessels of the Holland America and Windstar lines, retiring a second time in 2008.
Steve calmed troubled waters and always found the humor in life.
Steve is mourned by his wife Carol Butler of Seattle, his sisters: Patricia Ellison (Portland), Susan Olsen (Seattle), Merle Ray (Salt Lake City); beloved daughters: Jen Butler and Katy Butler (Seattle); his much loved grandchildren: Lars, Kayden and Hank and his many colleagues and friends.
When our troubles suddenly quiet and an understanding laugh is heard, we turn around but Steve is gone.
