Virginia G. (Artis) Pomme’, age 93, died at home on Tuesday, November 19, in Burien, WA, surrounded by family. From her birth in Chicago, IL on November 7, 1925 and throughout her life, she exhibited a lively sense of humor, a style all her own, a pride in her Polish-Catholic heritage, and deep curiosity about the world. She was an avid watcher of professional tennis and always won at Jeopardy. Virginia married E.J. (Bud) Artis in l947 and together they raised nine children in Boise, ID. She was active in parish life at St. John’s Cathederal . When her husband of 33 years died in l980, Virginia enjoyed a few single years, traveling throughout the United States, visiting her large extended family and volunteering as a translator for Polish refugees. In l987 she married Edouard C. Pomme ‘ They resided in Boise, ID but moved to Donnelly, ID and later to Stayton, OR. She and Ed enjoyed 26 years together before he died in 2013. She relocated to Burien, WA in 2014. All will cherish the many holiday gatherings that Virginia hosted throughout her life. She created amazing food, continual laughter and a bounteous sense of community for all.
Mrs. Pomme’ is survived by her brother, Joseph C. Gorz, nine children: Victoria (AL) Gregonis, Edward J.,Artis, Jr. (Deborah), Paul Artis (MaryAnn), Marie Levine (Bruce), Teri Crosswhite (Frank), Dusty Hebison (Charlie), Gabrielle Erken (Will), Thomas Artis (Mary) and Lita Artis (Ken Gollersrud); Ed Pomme’s children: Joe Pomme’ (Kim), Edouard B. Pomme’, and Michelle Byington. In addition she is survived by 30 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Chicago, Boise and throughout the United States.
A celebration of life will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church in Burien, WA, on December 18, at 11:00 a.m. Reception following.
An additional celebration of life will take place at St. John the Evangelist Cathedral in Boise, ID on Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.
