Walter O. Titus

Walt passed away peacefully on January 17, 2014 with his family at his side. Born on August 15, 1927 in Gary, Indiana to Catherine (Oliver) and Walter F. Titus where he spent his childhood. He left Indiana in 1947 to fish in the Bering Sea and discovered his beloved Seattle Washington.

Walt served in both World War II and the Korean War with the United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He returned to Seattle, spending summers fishing in Alaska and attending the University of Washington graduating in 1955 with a degree in Economics and Business Administration.

Walt worked in the hospitality business for many years serving as the Controller for the Westin Hotels at; the Edmond Meany Hotel (Seattle), the Davenport Hotel (Spokane), and the Continental Plaza Hotel (Chicago). Prior to his retirement he served as Chief Financial Officer to the Gaslight Clubs (Chicago, New York, Washington D.C.) for several years until his decision to return to Seattle, ending his career at Universal Services (Seattle).

After retirement he moved to their property on the water in Kingston Washington, with his wife Norma of 63 years, enjoying the boats, sunrises, and ever changing scenery with his children and grandchildren. Walt had a passion for world and military history and built an extensive library over the years. He enjoyed swimming, hunting, fishing, and all the Pacific Northwest afforded. He was especially accomplished at leather craft, carpentry projects and tinkering around his home. A quiet, kind, reserved man with a wry sense of humor, he found his true happiness when surrounded by his family and close friends.

He is survived by his loving family; wife Norma, son Bruce (Carol Ann) Titus, daughters Carol Garrett and Joan Romero, adored grandchildren Nicholas Titus, Keli Garrett-Oliveira and Sarah Titus, brother Richard (Diane) Titus, cousin Norma (Bill) Newman, nephew Daniel Titus, and nieces Christine Vachon and Becky West. He was preceded in death by his cherished sister, Margaret Colvin.
